The Drum understands that Northern Rock is down to the final stages of pitching for its above-the-line account.

It is thought that three agencies are set to pitch for the account, including incumbent Cravens.

The building society is also in the final stages of reviewing its £2 million media account, currently held by MediaVest Manchester and is expected to see the brand look to take a step away from its troubles over the last three years.

In 2007, Northern Rock became the first financial company to be bailed out by the UK Government in 2007 where it borrowed £26.9 million in emergency funding from the Bank of England.

Cravens worked with the brand in May to develop a dedicated fan website as part of Northern Rock’s sponsorship of Newcastle United FC.
