A series of snaps, apparently depicting a young woman handing her boss a very public resignation, have been revealed as a hoax by their host, The Chive website.

In the pics ‘Jenny’ held up a whiteboard upon which were scrawled a series of less than flattering observations relating to her fictitious boss ‘Spencer’.

Thirty three images were posted in all, a set which graphically tells the story of the apparent ‘resignation’ when flicked through.

Describing her boss as a “garbage diSpencer” Jenny went on to pen a litany of reasons for quitting, a list which included “temper”, “bad breath”, sexism and spending around 19.7 office hours per week on Farmville.

None of this detail gave any cause for doubt until the LA Times unearthed a modelling ad submitted by the site in the days leading up to publication which gave the game away.

Rather than an over elaborate resignation stunt the pics were found instead to be a vehicle for driving traffic to the site.

In this the site proved to be an unmitigated success as the story went “viral” on social networking sites and even secured a spot on that doyen of factual reporting, Fox News.
