GMG Radio has launched individual mobile apps for its Real, Smooth and Rock Radio brands allowing fans to listen to the stations on the move.

The free apps are available for the iPhone, iPod and iPad and were created in house by the GMG Radio Digital Team working with All In Media.

Users can listen to the stations in the background while they use other apps on their device, buy music the station is playing and tell a friend about a specific track they have heard.

The apps trumpet the stations' competitions, news and galleries and allow listeners to set a reminder so they can be alerted before their favourite show starts.

Although free to download the apps are laced with commercial opportunities. "Each app is able to offer clients pre-roll audio before the station’s live streaming begins and allow targeting to individual devices as well as a select number of usage sessions," GMG said.

And it hinted that specific promotions and giveaways could make use of iPhones' 'push notifications’ feature, which places a pop up on screen.

Jonathan Gillespie, GMG radio group commercial director, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our listeners three of the most comprehensive radio apps in the market place to further enhance their enjoyment of Real, Smooth and Rock Radio.”
