Alupro, the UK’s aluminium recycling body, has enlisted Pelican PR to help promote its cause and encourage more foil and aerosol collections.

The Saddleworth agency will be offering PR support to encourage local authorities to expand their kerb-side collections.

Alupro wants more people to recycle every day items including deodorants, air fresheners and takeaway foil packaging.

The Aerofoil campaign is backed by Lynx deodorant producer Unilever, the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association, aluminium foil container manufacturers Coppice Alupack, Jena and Nicholl Food Packaging and steel maker Corus.

Pelican managing director, Michael Bennett, said: “As well as promoting the new campaign to local authorities we will be using our expertise in recycling communications to help them get the expanded collection schemes off to a flying start.” Alupro executive director Rick Hindley said: “Most people are used to recycling food and drink cans, but are less used to recycling other metal containers used in the home. Because they are made of endlessly recyclable aluminium and steel aerosols and foil trays are a useful source of material to the reprocessing industry, so it is important that we try and divert as much as possible from landfill."
