The production division of Scottish broadcaster STV has agreed a format deal with US production company Kinetic Content, which will see them license each other’s original formats in their home countries.

Newly developed and existing formats by STV Productions and Ginger Productions will be made available to Kinetic Content to be co-produced by the two in the USA. The deal will also allow STV to hold exclusive UK rights to co-produce Kinetic Content’s formats too.

The two companies will also work to develop new formats which will be taken to broadcasters in both the UK and US, and is a deal which STV believes will allow it access US broadcasters through ‘cost effective’ means and open up the UK market to its Los Angeles partner company where a dedicated member of STV will be based.

STV programme formats that will be made available include: Antiques Road Trip; DNA Stories; Missing Mums; and Extreme Celebrity Detox.

Alan Clements, director of content for STV, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with globally focused company, Kinetic Content, on what we believe to be a unique, forward thinking and innovative joint venture, which presents huge opportunities for both companies in new markets. Kinetic is an exciting business with a very talented and experienced team, and we look forward to developing STV’s global presence and sharing formats with them going forward.”

Chris Coelen, CEO of Kinetic Content, said: “With a passionate team of creative talent and the resources of the most popular commercial broadcaster in Scotland, STV’s unique market position makes them a terrific partner with whom to launch worldwide entertainment properties.”
