Aleksandr Orlov, furry face of advertising for comparethemarket, has been immortalised in a giant Wickerman style structure at a farm in Nantwich, Cheshire.

Rendered in straw over a steel frame, complete with illuminated eyes, the 36ft statue has been designed to cash in on the marsupials fame to plug the nearby Snugbury’s Ice Cream Farm to passing motorists.

Every year a different sculpture is erected on the site with past models including Big Ben, a windmill and Russian satellite Sputnik.

Orlov is now the world’s most popular Meerkat, having amassed an impressive 750k friends on Facebook, and inspired an unlikely cult of followers who lap up pronunciation inconsistencies in stock catchphrases ‘Compare the meerkat’ and ‘Seemples’.
