The woman who set up a Facebook page in tribute to gunman Raoul Moat has removed it following public anger about the site, including condemnation by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Siobhan O'Dowd set up the page, which garnered 38,000 members, many of whom left messages of support for the now deceased fugitive, while he was on the run.

Many, including the Prime Minister, vented their outrage at the page set up in support of Moat who shot and killed the new boyfriend of his ex-partner, and wounded both she and a police officer who is fighting to regain his sight.

The site was last night taken down by O’Dowd, with even Facebook unwilling to take steps to remove the page.

A poll set up on The Drum website found that 55 percent felt the page was ‘a disgrace’, while 34 percent felt that people should be allowed to pay tribute to whoever they wished online. 11 percent of voters said that it was Facebook’s decision whether the page should be removed or not.
