Former Faulds creative boss Billy Mawhinney has been recruited to keep this year's London-based judges, which includes DDB London creative director Richard Russell, in check as the entry deadline for Scottish Ad Awards looms large.

This year has again seen a number of leading creative minds signed up to sit on the judging panel, which includes DDB London creative director Richard Russell, Saatchi and Saatchi creative director Dennis Willison, Fallon copywriter Tony Miller and Jay Phelps of McCann London.

There are also a couple of names sitting on the judging panel that will be familiar to Scottish advertising folk - Billy Mawhinney, who was previously creative director of the now defunct agency Faulds and is now working with Mccann Erickson in Birmingham, and also Cat Reynolds, who previously worked in Scotland with The Leith Agency and 1576, but now works with Wieden + Kennedy in Amsterdam.

It is hoped that Mawhinney and Reynolds will be able to bring their understanding of the Scottish ad industry to bear at the judging session and will keep these big flouncy London creative types in check.

Speaking of what he will be looking for at the judging Russell of DDB London said: "I'll be looking for new ideas, new ideas and new ideas. Or the usual done unudually well. Thoughtful considered strategies and solutions. hard-working, relevant ideas that sell. Craft skills that allow a great idea to become even better in the execution."

The official deadline for entries to reach The Drum's office is Friday 16 July.
