The Beautiful Game

To celebrate the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, I produced a limited edition series of hand-pulled screenprints on vintage Subbuteo pitches dating back as far as the 1960s.

TRENDS NOW

Optus – Secret Training Camp

Nothing like training with the big guys. ‘Secret Training Camp’, directed by Paranoid US’s Thierry Poiraud, brings some serious wildlife to the playing fi eld. The spot, via M&C Saatchi, is a dramatic concept featuring the Australian national soccer team and African animals. Everyone on the shoot would agree, the production was a feature fi lm. Period. Animals were shot in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, on location. From there the crew went to Australia to shoot the athletes in a studio, and fi nished with post at BUF in Paris, France. Post-production was a two month full-scale effort. With animals, a night time setting, a child actor and soccer celebrities, it was no easy feat to get the fi nal result. In a note of humor, Optus invited French director Thierry Poiraud to a Socceroos match, assuming that since he was European, he would be a huge football fan. However in reality it was his fi rst experience in a soccer stadium!

Great design away jerseys

I have selected the best designed away jerseys from some national teams that we will be watching in South Africa.

WE ARE BAS & DAAN

Case: KNVB Supporter Shirt

Challenge: Develop a premium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Solution: The heads of the players of the Dutch national team are printed on the inside of T-shirts. The shirts are to be worn inside out when the Dutch team scores. This way the audience becomes part of the team.

VINYL PULSE

To celebrate the upcoming gathering of the word’s best football players and passionate fans in South Africa, adFunture has collaborated with Family Mart, a major convenience store chain in China, on the Yoka Football 2010 series featuring 10 different “kickin’” designs.

This high-profi le project will increase exposure of both Yokas and platform toys among a broad mainstream audience in China.

Such projects are highly sought after in Asia where mascot/character marketing is the norm.
