The English Football League has appointed bookmaker Coral as its new ‘Official Betting and Gaming partner’.

The three-year deal that begins on July 1, 2010, will see Coral, which operates over 1,600 licensed betting shops throughout the UK as well as coral.co.uk, also become the ‘Official online Betting and Gaming partner’ of FL Interactive (FLi) - the digital arm of the Football League.

As FLi manages and develops the internet and mobile rights for 82 clubs from the Football League and Premier League, the deal will give fans easy access to place bets through their team’s own websites.

As well as visibility on one of the UK’s leading sports sites, Coral, which is part of Gala Coral Group, will also benefit from significant advertising exposure and hospitality at the Football League’s Final events and will have access to tickets at league matches for participating clubs.

Chris Edgington, group marketing director of Gala Coral Group, said: “Becoming the ‘Official betting and gaming partner’ of the Football League provides a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to the game and help bring that passion alive for fans across the UK through our 1,600 shops. Having just rebuilt and re-launched coral.co.uk to offer our customers an enhanced online betting experience, the timing of this partnership is perfect.”

Football League commercial director Stewart Thomson said: “I’m delighted to welcome Coral as our new ‘Official betting and gaming partner’. Our network of club websites generate more than 56m page impressions every month, which offers a great opportunity for Coral. I’m looking forward to working with them over the next three seasons.”
