Sandwich outlet Subway has launched its new loyalty scheme ‘Subcard’, including 2D barcode technology which will run across more than 1,400 of its stores in the UK and Ireland.

The scheme enables customers to download a 2D barcode to their mobile phones and collect loyalty points and redeem free sandwiches while also tracking their balance and transaction history.

As well as iPhone, the card uses a Java application which can be accessed by most mobile phones across the UK, although Iphones have the additional feature of including a GPS function which locates the nearest Subway store.

Bryan Griffiths, CEO of Subway franchisee, EIPC Ltd, said: “The new Subcard Loyalty Scheme has been developed to recognise and reward the Subway chain’s customers, allowing them to collect loyalty points completely hassle free. The 2D barcode function of this technologically advanced scheme allows customers ease of use, meaning that they can fully benefit from this high redemption reward scheme.”
