Ofcom Report says 90% of UK adult social media users have Facebook profile
New research from Ofcom has found that nine out of ten UK internet users with a social networking site has a profile on Facebook.
The UK Adult Media Literacy report, published today, found that over the last three years, social media profiles on Facebook have grown from 62% of UK adult social media users, to 90%.
Other social media sites such as Myspace have decreased from 46% to 18% while Bebo has decreased from 32% to 17%, in the same timeframe.
10% of UK adults now have a Twitter account, which was not featured in 2007’s research, while 71% of social media users now only have one site, an increase of 10%.
An increase has also been recorded in the frequency of use on social networking sites, with 41% of UK adult users visiting their site every day.
Meanwhile, most social networking users say that their profiles can only be viewed by their friends, increasing from 48% to 80%.
The report also says that UK adults have become more knowledgeable about online security and are less willing to provide personal information to a website than they were three years ago and believe there is now more online regulation.
Also reported is that around half of all adults consider television (52%) and radio content (50%) to be reliable and accurate compared to three in ten internet users judging internet content in this way (31%).
The Adult’s Media Literacy Audit involved 1824 in-home interviews with adults aged 16 and over.
