In February Sky News presenter Kay Burley reduced pop star Peter Andre to tears questioning him about his relationship with his children after the break down of his marriage. But despite 881 complaints the broadcaster has escaped discipline by Ofcom.

Ofcom has opted not to discipline the broadcaster after its presenter Kay Burley attracted 881 complaints for questioning the singer about his relationship with his children following the break-up of his marriage, according to today's Guardian newspaper.

Despite the large number of complaints received from the public by Ofcom, neither Andre or his management officially complained.

In its adjudication Ofcom said that it had declined to take action against Sky as Andre has considerable experience of the media and had talked previously about his personal life in pubic.

The adjudication went on: "The subject of his family and his marriage breakdown has been previously brought to public attention on several occasions and it would not in Ofcom's opinion have exceeded viewer expectations for questions on these subjects to be put to him in the context of a programme with a populist news agenda.

"In the context of a news programme which focuses on the human interest angle the broadcaster applied generally accepted standards to the interview with Peter Andre."
