The Drum understands that Manchester-based business Elevator Digital could soon become part of the global Saatchi & Saatchi group as part of a deal that will see the ad giant enter Manchester's digital scene.

A deal between the two agencies is yet to be officially confirmed, but The Drum believes that Elevator's staff have already been informed of the move.

Elevator’s owner Rob Wyer, who formed the business in 2002, was not able to discuss the deal when contacted by The Drum.

If a takeover deal is confirmed with Saatchi & Saatchi it will no doubt feed furious speculation about the London behemoth’s plans in the north.

A source told The Drum the deal had “apparently been brewing since the beginning of the year” before the paperwork went through last week.

Elevator has been independently-owned since it was founded in 2002 and its website states: “Elevator is an independently owned full service digital agency based in Manchester that values long-term reputation and integrity above short-term fees or profile,” the agency says on its website.

The agency has worked with clients such as Microsoft, Laing O'Rourke, Urban Splash, NWDA, Skype, AXA and the BBC.

Almost exactly a year ago it was reported that Saatchi & Saatchi had appointed Marc Huijbregts as digital director to work alongside worldwide digital creative director Tom Eslinger to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to move the agency's digital business forward.
