A new international forum which will allow people to share ideas and best practice in the digital community is to be launched by New Media Corp at Interactive Scotland's inaugural event this week.

Interactive Scotland, developed by Scottish Enterprise, through a programme of events beginning this week, will offer business advice and support to aid the Scottish digital media sector.

At its first Interactive Scotland event, New Media Corp will launch BarCamp, an initiative to share best practice within digital communications, scheduled to take place in June and will be held in a different city each year.

Arvind Salwan, director of New Media Corp, welcomed the launch of Interactive Scotland and what it sets out to achieve.

Salwan added that BarCamp would support the aims of Interactive Scotland and that it would be open to everyone across the country.

“BarCamp will give agencies, clients, developers, programmers, designers and other professionals a chance to get together to create and share ideas. It’s a really exciting opportunity for anyone involved in digital media,” he added.

Plans were announced at the end of last year by the Scottish Digital Media Industry Advisory Group to double Scotland’s digital media industry which currently accounts for 65% of the Scottish creative industries, with the aim of take the value of the sector to £2.8bn by 2012.

The inaugural Interactive Scotland event will be held on Thursday 25 March at The Hub, Digital Media Quarter, Pacific Quay, Glasgow, from 5pm.
