Marketing and communications agency ICE has hired Gemma Newman as director of strategic communications.

Newman has previously worked in project and programme management roles in the public sector and most recently worked on delivering Academy programmes for a number of local authorities.

Before that she held roles at the Office of the Deputy Prime Pinister, working on the Gershon review, and at international management consultancy Mouchel.

She has been charged with driving forward ICE's newly-formed strategic communications division which comprises project management, PR, marketing and events and exhibitions.

"Marketing and communications activities can often be misunderstood or viewed as an afterthought, but I’m committed to demonstrating the far-reaching benefits and impact a strategic approach to communications can have," Newman said.

ICE's clients include Central Government, local authorities, primary care trusts and NHS trusts across the country.

The Wirral-based agency's chief executive, Stuart Jackson, said: "I believe that Gemma will prove to be an invaluable and timely addition to our 50-strong team."
