D8 Digital has appointed Annie Boyd, founder of dating and events company The Beluga Club, to the newly-created role of head of social media.
The 33 year old previously ran her own online dating and events company, The Beluga Club, and is the first arrival as D8 looks to build "a dedicated team" for social media.
Mark Jennings, the agency's managing director, said: "Very few agencies have hired someone in this role. Most use existing staff with a bit of Twitter knowledge but do they really have experience of using social media at the coalface?”
Boyd, who used social media "extensively" to build the Beluga brand, said: "Social media offers a powerful voice for both business and consumers. Used effectively it can build valuable relationships, develop brands, promote healthy, open discussion and generate growth in our economy.”

Does this mean that The Beluga Club is finished? How the hell am I going to get a date now?
Has anyone got any experience of using social media at the coalface. Apart from anything, the quality of wi-fi signals in British coal mines is absolutely terrible. But that's 18 years of Tory government for you.
Ano 13.15 I think you’re on the wrong board man socialist now might be more appropriate!!
So glad you sorted out that coalface misunderstanding for us all. I really thought he was talking about a real coalface, with coal and drills and all.

Obviously The Beluga Club is doing well...all that "social media" " being used "extensively" to build the brand...
