Four UK companies make top 50 worldwide brands

Four UK businesses have been named in the top 50 of a league table of the world’s most valuable brands, compiled by consultancy Brand Finance.

The top UK brand is telecommunications brand Vodafone which was named as the seventh most valuable brand, one ahead of HSBC.

Also in the top 50 was Tesco which came in at 16 and Barclays which was 44th. Having yesterday announced record profits.

The world’s most valuable brand remains Wal-Mart, while Google has risen from fifth to Second this year, overtaking Coca-Cola.

Other UK brands in the top 500 include BT at 86, Standard Chartered at 105, J Sainsbury at 128, Marks & Spencer at 198 and Royal Bank of Scotland, falling from 268th to 324th.

Interestingly Toyota was the top car manufacturer brand with the survey being carried out before the Japanese brand’s well reported problems in the last few weeks, coming in at number 10.

The full list of the top 500 will be released at lunch time by Brand Finance.
