A new brand for Ayrshire & Arran is to be created allowing a combined approach to promoting the destinations as an ideal place for business, leisure, tourism, education and lifestyle.

The project is supported by VisitScotland, and funded by Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Scottish Enterprise, and the region’s local authorities.

Responsible for the branding will be Ayr-based Ocean Agency, which was appointed to the project following a five-way pitch, and the agency will be holding consultation workshops with key stakeholders later this month, with the new branding due to roll out in March.

Commenting on the new approach, Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Martin Cheyne said: “This is the first stage towards putting Ayrshire on the map as a key destination to visit, live and work. We anticipate the new branding will help strengthen the region’s business environment, develop pride in Ayrshire & Arran products and attract new businesses, investors, visitors and people.”

Meanwhile VisitScotland’s regional director Sandi Hellowell said: “We are delighted to work together with Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Scottish Enterprise and the three Ayrshire Councils to create a new identity for the region. We all share an interest in promoting Ayrshire & Arran so it makes sense to collaborate in this way for the benefit of the region. Tourism growth is critical to the Ayrshire & Arran and in the current climate it is crucial we work together to get tourism back on track.”

Derek Goodchild, creative director of Ocean Agency, added: “Developing brands is a core part of our business and we’re gearing up to deliver for Ayrshire & Arran.”
