It has been reported that the Old Firm are set to announce a new shirt sponsor, with Carling’s £18m deal coming to an end this summer.

Rival lager brand Tennent’s is seemingly the favourite to secure a new sponsorship deal with Celtic and Rangers when its current sponsorship of the Scottish national team expires in June.

Tennent’s, which also sponsors T in the Park, is looking to boost its marketing in Scotland following its acquisition by C&C, makers of Magners Cider.

A new lucrative deal would be particularly welcomed by Rangers, with the Ibrox club currently up for sale and facing major money problems.

Tennent's said of the speculation: "Tennent's is a major supporter of football in Scotland and has been for over 35 years.

"Consequently, from time to time we will be linked to sponsorship opportunities within the game. We will not comment on speculation."

Meanwhile a spokesman for Rangers said: "We are in negotiations on a number of sponsorship levels with a number of parties but are unable to divulge any further details."
