Julie Allan, managing partner of Tangible Communications, the direct marketing division of The Cello Group, has been made redundant by the company following the recent loss of its £4m direct marketing account with ScottishPower.

Allan had been at Tangible, formerly Navigator Responsive Advertising, for some 12 years.

The ScottishPower account was handled by an internal brand within Tangible called Resonate, which was made up of eight members of staff and headed up by Melanie Morris.

Upon losing the account, Cello chose to close the Resonate office and move the members of staff into The Leith Agency and Tangible’s headquarters, based at The Shore in Leith.

Allan and Morris were both asked to re-apply for the position of heading up the newly formed Tangible structure, with Morris, who has also been with the company for 12 years, being chosen as the successful candidate.

It is understood that a junior planner at Tangible has also been made redundant as a result.

Andy Carolan, chairman of Tangible Group, said: “This has been a very painful decision which we had to make for business reasons as I’ve known Julie both personally and professionally, for a long time and I rate her very, very highlight but this was unavoidable as a result of Scottish Power’s decision.”

The Scottish Power account moved its direct marketing account last month to Bright Blue Day in Poole, having held the account since 2004.
