A new campaign developed by social marketing agency ICE for NHS East Lancashire is helping patients make the most of the health services offered by their GP this winter.

The ‘You Can’ campaign has been launched following a recent NHS Patient Survey, which found that people weren’t fully aware of all the different ways they could access their GP services.

ICE has consulted with local GPs and Practice Managers to better understand how local people could access “the right treatment, in the right place, and at the right time”. Based on this insight, ICE’s creative team developed the ‘You Can’ campaign concept and identity, which was tested out at a series of patient and public forums run by the Primary Care Trust. From this, they developed and produced a full ‘You Can’ Support Pack to help each of the 55 General Practices across East Lancashire to promote to their patients the various ways they can access their GP services.

ICE also delivered a press launch and a series of PR and internal communications resources to help NHS East Lancashire support local GPs and health professionals in maximizing the impact of the campaign.

David Rogers, head of communications at NHS East Lancashire, said: “This campaign is a vitally important part of improving our overall patient care, and ICE has been a great partner to work with. They really got to grips with the brief, and as a result, came up with a total solution from insight to intervention, evaluation and future recommendations. The core concept really resonated locally with all stakeholders and feedback from consumers has been very positive so far.”

The next phase of the ‘You Can …’ campaign will continue to roll out across East Lancashire in the New Year.
