Visual effects and animation studio Mi has been briefed to produce a movie about The Sharp Project, Manchester's new multi million pound digital media production complex.

The 250,000 sq ft development on the site of the old Sharp warehouse is intended to be an independent hub for creative and digital businesses - in particular animation, CGI and visual effects firms.

It is a not-for-profit development funded by Manchester City Council and regeneration company New East Manchester.

Tony Hartley-Denton, MD of Manchester agency Mi, said: “The Sharp Project is very much a ‘counter-corporate’ location and our brief is to produce an original film about the Project that reflects this and pushes the creative boundaries.”

In April, Manchester's four23 unveiled the unconventional visual identity it created for the project influenced by digital generative art.

Susan Woodward, New East Manchester’s Sharp Project Project director, said: “We have been conscious not to market The Sharp Project in a traditional way and Mi’s innovative way of working complements our unconventional approach."

In other news Mi has boosted its team with two new appointments.

Nick Williams joins as an account director responsible for new business development. He previously worked at 422 and Dinosaur where he handled clients including the The Co-operative, Urbis and npower.

Also arriving is 3D modelling and animation designer Thomas Morgan.
