Following a consultation period, Trinity Mirror Midlands has confirmed that The Birmingham Post will go weekly from next month with both editor Marc Reeves and Steve Dyson, editor of sister title The Birmingham Mail, set to leave.

Dave Brookes, editor of the Coventry Telegraph, will take on their responsibilities in role of editor-in-chief.

40 editorial and 42 non-editorial roles are now also under threat due to the proposed changed.

John Griffith, managing director of BPM Media, said: “In reaching the decisions we are announcing today, we have taken great care to consider all the options and we have sought the views of our staff, advertisers and key contacts.

“We believe the changes we plan to introduce offer the best way forward for the business, to help us tackle the immediate issue of the forecast deficit and to set us up more effectively for the longer term."
