Cheshire and Merseyside's public health network has appointed BJL to help encourage men to cut their alcohol intake.

The brief is to develop community interventions so 35 to 55-year old men in mainly manual occupations reduce the amount of alcohol they drink.

The Manchester agency was appointed following a pitch against undisclosed agencies on the NHS north west social marketing roster.

Tracey Lambert, ChaMPs' social marketing programme manager, said: “Drinking too much is not only a burden on our health service but on the police, local authorities and, most of all, families who have to live with the destructive consequences of alcohol abuse.

“By targeting this group we are laying the foundations for reducing the harm alcohol can do to them, their families and society in the years ahead. BJL demonstrated strong understanding of this challenging subject matter."

Charlotte Thompson, director at BJL, added: "This initiative will see health services and the pub industry working together to help consumers enjoy alcohol within safe limits for their health and wellbeing."
