Four23 has created a brand identity for Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu.

The Manchester studio devised a visual identity based on a butterfly shape, made up of five rings to represent her gold medal in the 400m at last year's Beijing Olympics and aspirations for London 2012.

The blue butterfly is also a nod to Ohuruogu's Nigerian family heritage - the country is home to a rare breed of butterfly known for its speed and striking blue colour.

Warren Bramley, four23's creative director, said: "Chrissy’s contributions in the initial research was invaluable, so much so that when we came to the design, the process was a very natural one – the design just emerged. It was a wonderful project to work on.”

The brand will initially be rolled out on Ohuruogu's website, chrissyo.com (pictured).

For the site, four23 used full screen images to showcase the athlete's prowess on the track.

But the content reflects the runner not only as an athlete but as a person, four23 said, with sections dedicated to the books and music that she is passionate about.

Her butterfly identity is incorporated into the navigation along with a custom typeface.
