The Manchester Evening News has released a statement to say that it is to withdraw from the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABCs) having changed its distribution model earlier this year.

The paper has made the temporary move having changed its distribution format in April which meant between April and June around 90,000 copies handed out at the beginning of the week until Wednesday, while around 165,000 are handed out on Thursdays and Fridays while paid for copies were still made available outside of the city centre all week.

Sarah Spratt, managing director of MEN Media, said: “We continue to have a very good relationship with ABC and have no intention of removing any of our other titles.

“Furthermore we hope that in the not too distant future, through continued discussion, our more bespoke and transparent distribution pattern is included within ABC rules and we can look to move the Manchester Evening News back into ABC.”

Spratt concluded: “In these unprecedented times for our industry and the economy, we continue to look for innovative ways to provide our readers and advertisers with the most effective media offering by flexing all elements of our portfolio, whether through print, broadcast or online.”
