County Durham has launched a new tourism place brand created by Edinburgh agency Crombie.

The brand was unveiled by the County Durham Tourism Partnership at its annual garden party and is the culmination of Crombie's work since winning the project after a competitive pitch in February.

To build the brand, the agency says it conducted focus groups and carried out map and gap interviews with locals, visitors and other local influencers.

The key findings were then presented to the tourism partnership's board, key stakeholders and Durham County Council members.

Melanie Sensicle, chief executive of the County Durham Tourism Partnership, described it as a "critical piece of work for County Durham".

She said: "It has been received very positively and the tools provided by Crombie will be invaluable over the coming months."

Suzanne Wood, account director at Crombie, added: "The brand was officially launched last week at the annual CDTP Garden Party and it was great to see the brand eventually come to life in the form of an over sized story book, pocket guidelines, invitations, postcards and banners."
