Footballer's briefs

By The Drum, Administrator

July 17, 2009 | 2 min read

And with times being incredibly tough out there for the whole of the UK’s creative community, and new business opportunities being even rarer than an Emile Heskey England goal, The Drum thought that professional footballers, who now earn higher weekly salaries than members of the Royal Family, could well prove to be fertile ground for new business opportunities.

Also, The Drum would just love to be able to run headlines such as ‘John Terry scores own goal over free pitching fiasco’, ‘Carlos Tevez misses open goal with flop pay per kick strategy,’ or ‘Drogba website stats don’t take a dive after more amateur dramatics’.

So, with that in mind and to get the ball rolling, we approached a number of football crazy/football mad creative agencies to ask if they would fancy jinking down the wing, throwing a cheeky nutmeg and putting together a poster advert to sell their favourite football players.

It took a bit of persuading, but once agencies realised that if they did some good attention grabbing work they could one day be holding a new business meeting with Joey Barton, they jumped at the chance.

The brief was quite simple, choose a footballer at your football club that you would like to see the back of and use you’re creative juices to create some interest. As you will see, some took the brief more seriously than others, but then again there are also a lot of comedians pretending to be professional footballers. We would like to thank Ben & James, Elmwood, Thomson, Jump, Fifth Ring, Mightysmall and Woody & Vinny for getting involved.
