Glasgow-based Traffic Design has been commissioned by publisher Rotovision to compile and design a fourth book – Graphic Design For Less.

The agency has previously written Festive (Rotovision 2002), the graphic designers Chrismas card book; Touch This (Rockport 2005); and Print and Production Finishes for Promotional Items (Rotovision 2007).

It will feature design work created by agencies across the globe. However, echoing the other books, Scott Witham, creative director at Traffic, is keen to introduce a regional accent to the book.

He added: "The book is going to be about graphic design for less – producing award winning graphics with bugger all money. It's going to showcase work where designers have created their own imagery, employed 'mates' as models for the cost of a pizza, used shots that are copyright cleared, printed using local printers and perhaps hand finished or folded...

"We plan to show amazing design work that didn't have Nike or Coca Cola sized budgets. It will also contain hints and tips on how to maximise design. We also plan to publish case studies and we are looking at getting top designers to give us some of their favourite examples of their best work done with zero budget."

The 200+ page, hardback book (which will have a run of around 15,000 copies initially, with a 20,000 paperback copies released a year later) is due to be completed by February 2010 and due in the shops late summer 2010.
