Following the termination of the existing OEpan-airport advertising agreement with JCDecaux Airports, BAA has announced that applications to register interest for the new airport media contract will open from mid July.

Applicants should apply via the web at www.airportsmart.com.

The tender covers all BAA airports – Southampton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh – and Heathrow Express. Media companies will be able to apply for one or more airports and Heathrow Express as combined or separate entities.

The opportunity will be given to tender for multiple or individual mediums across the portfolio comprising out-of-home (all formats), television, experiential, promotional and sponsorship.

With more than 144 million passengers passing through its airports and 5.5 million passengers on Heathrow Express each year, the tender presents an extraordinary opportunity for advertisers to target high numbers of frequent flyer and up-market leisure travellers, in an unique environment.

BAA will consider all registrations of interest before inviting selected companies to complete their tender over a two-month period. The winning agencies will be chosen before the end December with the contract officially starting from May 2010.

The announcement comes a week after the news broke that Murray Bothwell, director of regions at JC Decaux Airports, had been made redundant after 17 years of running the Scottish office of the outdoor advertising firm's airports division.
