John Clarke, the man credited with establishing Orkney the Brand, has today announced he is vacating his post due to other commitments.

Founding the Orkney branding programme in 1995, which was then formalised in 2003 as Orkney the Brand and run jointly by Orkney Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council, Clarke has been responsible for building the brand to its current level of success.

Achievements of Orkney the Brand include the establishment of the Orkney Village, which won a number of top awards at shows and expos throughout the UK, bringing about quality standards for membership of local trade associations and establishing a raft of distinct promotional initiatives. Its work has significantly benefited Orkney businesses.

Clarke commented: “It has been great doing this job in a wonderful place like Orkney with so many positive people and businesses to work with and I hope to continue working with a number of these as the focus of my work in Orkney will now switch to the private sector. I’m also considering other branding proposals but I’m not rushing to make any decisions on those.”

Clarke explained that he is will continue to run his marketing consultancy, Orkney Marketing, but is also considering an advisory role helping others setting up branding programmes.

It is understood that Orkney the Brand will be looking for a successor.
