The Scottish Government is looking to hire another chief marketing manager apparently to work alongside its current chief marketing manager Roger Goldie.

At the time of writing the exact nature of the newly created role was unclear although a spokesperson for The Government did say that this was not another chief marketing manager post, despite the advert stating exactly the opposite.

The wage for the Edinburgh based role will fall between £38,631-£50,551 (plus specialist pay supplement.)

The spokesperson also said that with the new roster,Goldie would now be leading on the framework and looking after supplier relations and services.

The recruitment advert for the role says that “due to an internal re-structuring, we are seeking a senior marketing communications specialist to advise on and provide effective marketing communications for Ministers and senior officials.

“Reporting to the deputy director, marketing you will be accountable for a multi-million pound budget and how it is delivered to achieve the Scottish Government’s objectives.”

Goldie was appointed to the role in October 2007 following a drawn-out search to replace Chris Dempsey, now head of communications and customer services at Registers of Scotland.

An industry insider commented: “How many people will it take for the Government to finally replace Chris Dempsey?”

Another insider questioned if Goldie was remaining in his role as to whether this meant he was being ‘sidelined’ by the Government.

Applications for the role are to be submitted by midday on 20 April.
