Peter Rivett-Jones, the former executive board director at Poulters, and David Emslie, the ex-business development director at Equifax, have launched The Data People, a data planning and analytics consultancy.

The consultancy, based in Leeds, claims it already has "a number" of undisclosed clients in the private and public sectors and says it also wants to work with agencies. The firm says it is "currently in discussions with a number of digital and integrated agencies" about helping them with their clients' data.

Rivett-Jones said: "Very few companies or agencies have their own data planning resource and we’re looking to fill that gap.

"In the current economic climate there’s never been a greater need to identify the customers that matter and develop strategies that take advantage of this knowledge."

Emslie added: “Many organisations cannot identify the top users of their products or services. To understand who your best customers are relies on good customer insight and intelligence, and that’s driven by analysing your data.”

Rivett-Jones left Leeds ad firm Poulters in 2007 after completing an earn-out following the sale of the agency to Bezier. He has since held non-exec positions with Digital Therapy and Green as well as running his own marketing consultancy.

Prior to joining Poulters in 2005, Rivett-Jones spent two years as a planing partner at Chemistry, launched brand response agency Made With Love and held senior positions at Joshua, Grey Direct and GGT Direct.

Emslie has spent the last 10 years at Equifax in a variety of senior roles in marketing, new business and account management. Most recently he headed up new business development within the marketing services division of Equifax UK.

Prior to Equifax, Emslie had stints at JDA and Poulters and was head of marketing at Strachan Bedrooms. Steve Raper, who has run his own data analytics consultancy for the past 13 years, will join the pair in the business.

Raper worked with Rivett-Jones at MWL, Joshua and Grey Direct.
