Mark Pearson has left his role as head of programming at Manchester United’s television station MUTV to join bookmaker Betfred as head of media.

Pearson joined MUTV in 1998 and was at the forefront of the channel’s re-launch in November 2006.

He was also responsible for managing the station’s week of special programming to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the football club's Munich air disaster last year.

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “I’ve known Mark for many years and I’ve always been impressed with his knowledge and passion across many different sports. He is a perfect signing for Betfred as we expand our in-house media offices and our key sponsorship contracts in the UK and in Europe”. Pearson took up his new post yesterday and his arrival at the firm – which claims to be the world’s largest independent bookmaker and e-gaming company – coincides with prestigious racing event the Cheltenham Festival. He said of his new role: “I have loved every minute at Manchester United and will be ever thankful for the opportunity they gave me. But when the world’s biggest bookmaker comes knocking on your door with the opportunity to represent Fred Done in the media and help develop Betfred’s in-house media offices, you can’t say no.”
