MEN Media, publisher of the Manchester Evening News and 22 weekly titles in the north west, has told staff that 150 jobs will be cut and all weekly editorial offices are to close.

Offices will be closed in Accrington, Ashton, Macclesfield, Oldham, Rochdale, Rossendale, Salford and Wilmslow, with production of the weekly newspapers – which will continue to be produced - centralised in MEN’s headquarters in Manchester’s Spinningfields district.

An office will remain open in Stockport but it will not be used by editorial staff. Details of the cuts are set to be announced in an official statement, but the number of editorial jobs which will go is 78. To make the cuts, the company is seeking 39 volunteers for redundancy from the Manchester Evening News and 39 from the weekly titles, according to the National Union of Journalists, which has condemned the announcement.
