Former director of Scottish Media Group Donald Emslie has set up a new management company alongside Peter Murphy, former managing director of Macdonald Hotels Scotland.

Through Castle Hotel Management Company (CHMC), the pair will run existing premises and set up new hotels for developers.

They also plan to target hotels owned by banks or pension funds who’s owners have defaulted on loans.

The pair signed the contract to take on the running of the Duke of Roxburghe yesterday.

CHMC will manage and market the hotel. It will also run the golf course and other country pursuits at the venue.

Since his departure from SMG, Emslie has become chairman of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the company which runs Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park and chairman of Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre.

He is also a member of the boards of Scottish Water and the Scottish Rugby Union.
