Creative studio four23 has been shortlisted in an international competition to redesign King's Cross Square in London.

The competition, set by the Royal Institute of British Architects, generated over a hundred expressions of interest from all over the world, and Manchester-based four23 has now made it to the last six.

The winning design will be selected this summer and the anticipated budget for the project is £6m.

The redesign of King's Cross square forms part of a £450m investment which will see the new square - which will be bigger than Leicester Square - become a key feature of the redeveloped King's Cross station.

Four23 collaborated on its entry with Danish firm Gehl Architects, which has previously created design strategies for Broadway and Times Square in New York.

Warren Bramley, four23's creative director, said: "We are delighted to have been selected for the shortlist and for the opportunity to continue working with a brilliant international team on such a prominent project.

"We enjoy collaboration and the process of intertwining our respective skills and processes has already proved to be inspiring and hugely stimulating ”
