A new book of photography has been created Liverpool design agency Smiling Wolf alongside photographer Dan Kenyon as a study of everyday people in Liverpool.

Liverpool Sung & Unsung has been self published by Smiling Wolf with an initial run of 2,000 copies being printed.

The book includes information and portrait images of characters from the city and was begun in the summer of 2006 when Kenyon returned to Liverpool.

Kenyon explains his reasons for embarking on the project in the foreword, saying: “This is not a cliché ridden book of the usual suspects. There’s a deliberate absence of footballers, musicians and left wing politicians. This is no ‘luvvie fest’.”

He continues: “This book has the feel of a complete album of substantial work. The book is the city, the city is the book.”

An exhibition of 20 A1 portraits selected from the book will also begin today at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

The book is also on sale through Smiling Wolf’s website.
