MDA:Creative has confirmed Ian Pinches will be its new creative director, while The Drum has learned the agency's managing director, Les Kerr, has left the business.

Formerly creative director at Preston-based agency Ainsworth and Parkinson, Pinches has won Cream and Fresh awards and worked with clients including Durex, Scholl, Sainsbury's and Vimto.

He succeeds Alan Price, who stepped down as the Stockport-based advertising and marketing agency's creative director in November last year.

But while Pinches has joined up with MDA this week, it has emerged managing director, Les Kerr, who was appointed to the role last July, has left the agency.

MDA's client services director, Luis Troyano, told The Drum that Kerr had originally been appointed so the agency's chairwoman and founder, Anne Maley, could take a step back from the agency she has been running for over 30 years.

According to Troyano, Kerr's MD role was always temporary with a view to him eventually making a bid to take over the agency from Maley. But after taking a break, Maley had decided not to sell the agency and instead returned to manage it.

Kerr also runs stationery firm Zenith Office Supplies and his departure was said to be amicable.

With its new creative director in place, Troyano added that he was “excited” about the agency's future. “There have been some sweeping changes over the past months, but with a new senior team now in place and Ian on board to raise our creative profile we are in a very strong position to build on our existing client base and develop new business,” he said.
