Creative Concern has won the competition to create the identity for Urbis' Best of Manchester Awards 2009.

The awards that celebrate innovation in art, music and fashion, now in their third year, were this year developed to reflect the strength of the city’s creative industries, specifically the graphic design sector, who were invited to enter... and design the visual identity of the show.

“The response was fantastic and the strength of the work overwhelming,” says Caroline Ashworth, Urbis’ head of marketing. “Clearly a huge amount of creative thinking had gone into the proposals we saw which developed the brand in a number of distinctive ways, and it was very difficult to pick a winner.

"After much deliberation we finally selected Creative Concern. Their approach to the brief was extremely thorough and they came up with a unique concept and visual identity which carried through to specifics of the marketing process."

Chris Dessent the agency's MD said: "We are extremely excited to have been given this opportunity and look forward to working hard to take The Best of Manchester Awards to new heights.

The Best of Manchester Awards are organised by Urbis and, each year, are presided over by a panel of industry experts. Already for 2009, Peter Saville, Luke Bainbridge, Wayne Hemingway, Yvette Livesey and Miranda Sawyer have agreed to judge the awards, while confirmed partners include Harvey Nichols Manchester, Flux Magazine and Computer Arts.

The Awards aim to showcase the most innovative creative work by the best creative professionals working in Manchester today. Anyone working within the fields of music, art and fashion – and who lives or works in Greater Manchester - can enter. Winners each receive a £2,000 cash prize, the chance to have their work shown at Urbis and a tailored professional development package that will help them fast track their career or business.
