Leeds-based ATP Advertising & Marketing has been re-appointed to handle the £8m account of laser eye correction specialists, Ultralase following a two year absence.

ATP originally won the account in 2003 and was responsible for all creative, media buying and online sales activities. Andrew Thirkill, the agency chairman (pictured on the right), joined the Ultralase board in 2004 taking equity participation.

The relationship ended when Spanish company, Corporacion Dermoestetica, purchased Ultralase for £30m in 2006, but the agency has regained the account following the purchase of Ultralase by the leading UK venture capitalists 3i for £175m earlier this year.

ATP’s remit covers all creative, copywriting, media buying and the production of press, radio and TV advertisements. The agency will be using a variety of above and below-the-line tactics to promote the 27 clinics in the UK and Ireland, including endorsements from high profile sports stars such as Sir Steve Redgrave and Jonathan Edwards.

Managing director of ATP, Ian Ruddock (left), is pleased to be reunited with the high profile account.

“We took great pride in working with Ultralase from 2003 to 2006 when we handled it the first time around – it is the leading brand in the fast growing UK laser eye sector,” he said. “The unfortunate thing was that we were still developing the account when it was subject to a trade sale and the account moved for reasons beyond our control.

“Naturally we are delighted our skills and experience have been recognised by the new owners. We will be using our in-depth knowledge of the business and marketplace to ensure the campaigns we produce this time around are equally successful.”
