Mark Mason, CEO of Bristol-based agency Mason Zimbler is to depart the company before the end of the month.

Mason, former owner and co-founder of the agency is to leave as he looks to ‘pursue other interests’ having sold the company to global direct marketing services organisation Harte-Hanks.

He leaves the running of the company in Bristol to James Trezona, managing director of the Bristol office and Lucy Dawson, managing director of the Reading office.

“I decided to sell as the agency had gotten to a size where it needed a broader reach in terms of its offering and also its offering to the rest of Europe and the US,” Mason told The Drum.

As part of this, there is the possibility that Mason Zimbler will set up a third office somewhere in the US in the future.

Mason explains that he plans to take a bit of time out and spend time flying his hot air balloon before looking into his next venture.

“I’m proud that I’m leaving the agency in a strong position to go forward,” he concluded.

Mason set up the agency in 1997 alongside business partner Simon Zimbler who he bought out in 2003 having gone through a bit of a rocky patch in 2001 following the ‘dot com’ crash which saw the number of staff paired back from 40 to 13. He has since driven Mason Zimbler forward again to the point where it now employs around 60 people and works alongside clients such as Dell, Toshiba, Microsoft and Adobe.
