Martin to become editor-in-chief at The Herald Group
After much widespread speculation Donald Martin, editor of The Evening Times has been appointed as editor-in-chief at The Herald Group.
An internal announcement by Tim Blott, managing director of The Herald & Times Group informed staff that move will see Martin edit The Herald from tomorrow while continuing in his role as editor of The Evening Times.
The announcement read: "I am delighted to announce that the new editor in chief of the Herald & Times Group and editor designate of The Herald is Donald Martin, currently editor of the Evening Times in Glasgow."
The announcement continued: "It was an extremely difficult decision with the post attracting a high calibre of applications from all over the UK.
"However, Donald has done a tremendous job at the Evening Times and the two interviewing panels felt he had all the right credentials for further success in this most challenging of roles at this most challenging time.
"I am sure you will all join with me in wishing him every success."
Martin will take up his new position on December 3.
In a statement, Martin said: “I am delighted to take up this new and challenging role. I am fully committed to ensuring that The Herald, Evening Times and the Sunday Herald along with our digital products are strong, vibrant Scottish brands which reflect and appeal to the communities that we serve.”
It is yet unclear how this will affect the running of The Sunday Herald.
Martin replaces outgoing editor of The Herald, Charles McGhee who it is thought resigned due to his disagreement with the continued cutbacks being made at the company.
