Pact, the independent trade production body has found that the level of network television produced outside of London continues to be in decline.

According to its second annual trend report, London was the source of most UK network hours in 2007.

While Scotland saw an increase of 13% in its network hours from the previous year, it was found the Wales lost 26 hours of broadcast last year, while Northern Ireland’s number of hours fell from 20 to 16.

Other key findings from 2007 were that ITV1 failed to source any network programmes from Wales at all while it also reduced its numbers with Scottish production, despite the increase in hours recorded in the country.

Production in east our England was found to have nearly halved from 600 hours to 332 hours with the south east recording a 58% reduction.

It is expected that these numbers will be altered as more production has been planned for outside of London in the future with the BBC announcing that it would be moving several of its programmes to Scotland the Manchester, while Channel 4 has also made its intentions clear to do the same.

Maggie Croft, head of programmes at BBC Scotland told The Drum that she expected to see an increase in programming in an online interview.
