Last week, Edinburgh based consultancy User Vision held an open day to celebrate World Usability Day.

This was the fourth year that the consultancy had gotten involved and invited companies to experience a series of interactive demonstrations, live usability and accessibility test and workshops and high key user experiences.

The activities held at this year’s open day included :

The driving test challenge

Users tried the iTV software which allowed them to practice for the hazard perception portion for Driving theory tests.

• Mobile mapping for the Blind

Where blind users use audible SatNav through their mobile phones to find their way.

• Child car seats: Is your baby safe?

Which was live product usability testing finding challenges faced by parents today.

• How do adverts make you feel?

Where attendees saw iMotions technology in action and found out what emotional impact adverts have on users.

Chris Rourke, User Vision’s CEO explained: “World Usability Day is a great opportunity to shine a light on usability and accessibility. This year has seen us introduce some very exciting new technologies in eye tracking and interactive TV and we are looking forward to showcasing them on the day.”
