MediaCityUK has appointed Code Computerlove as its digital communications agency.

The Manchester based agency has been briefed with overhauling the MediaCityUK website as well as to devise the ongoing digital strategy for the project – set to become the largest purpse build media community in Europe.

Code will initially place a holding page to the main site which is expected to be completed and relaunched next month.

The digital communications strategy will be to provide information on the ongoing activity around the project and attract high calibre companies from creative, media and related industries.

Already the BBC has committed to relocating five departments to MediacityUK in 2011.

Paul Newman, head of communications for MediaCityUK said, “This is a unique development which will have profound implications for the North West and those working in the creative industries across the UK. Code is a first class digital agency with an impressive record for developing highly effective digital strategies and we’re looking forward to working with them.”

MediaCityUK is being developed and managed by Peel Media, a division of the Peel Group, working with a range of partners including Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Salford City Council.

The project has been designed specifically as a location where creative and digital businesses can thrive in a unique, collaborative environment. Central to the project are the state of the art facilities which will include, purpose built studio facilities, editing and post-production suites, leading edge sound and vision control rooms and a multi-platform converged network to allow companies within MediaCityUK to share and distribute content both locally and internationally.

Tony Foggett, managing director at Code said: “As an agency we’ve always been fiercely proud of being based in Manchester and we’ve long championed the benefits of doing business here. For that reason we’re delighted to be involved with one of the most ground-breaking projects the North West has ever seen. There is no doubt that this development will change the face of the city in a hugely positive way – our job is to ensure that message gets out in the digital arena.”
