Feather Brooksbank has created a new sponsorship division and appointed Ben Smith to lead it with a focus on sports and entertainment marketing.

Smith has thirteen years experience in the sector both on the client and agency sides, including HSBC and most recently MEC Access, Mediaedge:cia’s sponsorship division in London.

Smith, who will begin in December will be tasked with leading strategic consultancy, contract negotiation, activation and evaluation across sport, entertainment and cause marketing. A key focus for him will also be to integrate sponsorship with traditional media and digital communications.

Commenting on the new division Giles Brooksbank, chairman of Feather Brooksbank said: “Sponsorship is a huge growth area, currently experiencing annual growth rates of 9% which can only accelerate with London 2012 and of course the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. It’s a natural extension to what we do, our business is about engaging consumers with brands and this is just another way of doing this. More and more clients are asking us to get involved in this area and Ben’s expertise will enable us to deliver this specialism as part of an integrated communications strategy.”
