Glasgow based design agency Stand has completed its first project for Ikea Edinburgh, an audio visual experience of the new 2009 Ikea catalogue which will tour the east cost of Scotland.

The agency has created an interior projection booth which has been sculpted to look like a giant stack of catalogues with new products animated in an immersive experience within the interior.

The IKEA experience is travelling to city centre locations in Edinburgh, Stirling, Dunfermline, Livingston, Dundee and Aberdeen over a two month period to help the retailer reach a wider audience on Scotland’s East coast.

Promotional staff will hand out copies of the new catalogue and answer any store and product related questions.

Stand was given an open brief to help distribute the IKEA catalogue to consumers living outside of the immediate catchment of the Edinburgh store, using the spaces within town-centre shopping malls.

Emlyn Firth, senior designer at Stand, commented: “We were very inspired by the some of the new IKEA ranges and we wanted to excite others about these products in an innovative way. We commissioned our friends at Once Were Farmers, and soundscape specialist Guy Veale to collaborate on an animation with us which enhanced the existing imagery of the products in a playful, vibrant way. The idea was to not only command some attention and create a buzz about the new ranges, but hopefully inspire consumers to incorporate some bolder interior design ideas in their own homes.”

Jane Milroy, marketing manager at the IKEA Edinburgh store, “ We are delighted with the work Stand has created on our behalf. The creative solution is simple but effective. The solution is an excellent combination of creative but pragmatic design and strong, committed project management.”
