The inaugural Liverpool Design Symposium will take place this month with a programme of events intended to inspire and celebrate the city's creative talent.

The day long event is the brainchild of Liverpool design agencies Uniform, Smiling Wolf and Black & Ginger, and is backed by D&AD, DBA, Design Initiative and Merseyside ACME.

Black & Ginger's Matt Wardle hopes the event can help the city gain national recognition as a centre for design. He said: “It is about educating both industry insiders and clients that we are established in the design field.”

Highlights of the programme include a look at the history and modern effectiveness of type from leading typographer Bruno Maag of Dalton Magg, and a timely DBA Business Briefing on how to survive the credit crunch from Adrian Rasdall of Revenue Matters.

The day culminates with a lecture from Universal Everything's Matt Pyke, whose clients include Apple, Nike and London 2012 Olympics. Winning work from the Roses Design Awards will be on display throughout the day.

The event will be held at Liverpool's St Georges Hall on Thursday 23 October. Visit www.liverpooldesignsymposium.com for booking details and the full programme of events.
